Hi There!

I’m Damaris, creator of The Nurse Boost! I’ve been an RN for over 7 years working in different departments, but specializing in ER. I worked Full Time then Part Time before taking the plunge into Travel Nursing.

I cared for more critically ill/post ROSC patients on a daily basis while working the pandemic, than I ever did in my previous years as a nurse! I always felt anxious and somehow responsible. It was a huge hit to my confidence, and tbh, my ego a little too. After months of experiencing burn out at the bedside, I decided to “take a break.” I finished my last travel contract in April of this year and took 3 months off of work. I used to do well “handling” work and separating it from my personal life, but I became scared to do things I loved so much. The impact was so severe that it started affecting my personal life and left me with guilt, anger at my self for “not being stronger,” and imposter syndrome.

This site started during that time as a Facebook rant I had one day. It hurt to see how nurses (and all healthcare workers) constantly poured into everyone else’s cup while letting theirs run dry. I quickly realized so many people felt the same way I did. I wasn’t the only one feeling defeated, useless, helpless, tired, or lost. There was so many people out there feeling the effects of working in healthcare, so many who had also neglected the most important person… themselves. I found myself feeling their hurt, but also wanting to do more for them and so The Nurse Boost was born. My mission is to support and encourage nurses (old and new) to continue in their career without losing themselves in the process. I want to create a safe space where nurses can feel empowered to prioritize themselves, a place they can resort to when they need a little boost.
